One thing that Dewey wrote about in this subject, that disconnects from technology now would be when he said “a teacher will have no difficulty in seeing that the real problem of intellectual education is the transformation of natural powers into expert, tested powers: the transformation of more or less casual curiosity and sporadic suggestion into attitudes of alert, cautious, and thorough inquiry.”
There is so much more to test with a child now a days. There are different ways to see/show what a student is or isn’t capable of. There are so many ways now-a days to test a child if they lack any common knowledge and there is also special help. Although intellectual education doesn’t help “transform the natural powers into expert” it can truly see the problem the student may have and help them. Truth of the matter is, standardized testing doesn’t define a child’s intelligence, but it allows educators to see where they are lacking and help them improve.
